Session 1 – THE FUTURE
The world is becoming more urban as more people to choose to live in towns and cities and create sustainable communities. This is the reason why we take away from nature and create an entirely new, artificial environment, created and adapted to new species - modern man. New technologies, innovation and intelligent building can bring a significant change in the way of life of people in the towns future. Examples include intelligent buildings, passive, active or non-existent construction, intelligent transport systems, etc. The session is focused on technological progress and its impact on our lives.

Urban Implosions - The Dutch Experience - organised by the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAI), A10 New European Architecture Magazine and Brno Architecture Centre.
PUBLIC REALM - debates on tour on the urban implosions theme.
Hans Ibelings, architectural historian, publisher of A10 New European Architecture and Bart van der Vossen Rijnboutt study of Van der Vossen Rijnboutt will present Dutch experience with the phenomenon of urban concentration and suburbanisation. Jan Jehlík, head of the Urban planning Department of the Faculty of Architecture CTU in Prague, Roman Koucký, author of the book "Elementary urbanism" and Petr Hlaváček of R.U.A. studio, also lecturing at the Prague Faculty of Architecture, architects who have dealt with issues of urban planning, were invited to represent the Czech side.

Session 2 – CULTURE AND CREATIVITY
Towns and cities are readily accepting that culture, creativity and the arts play a vital role in the regeneration process. How can they play a more significant part in the development of cities and how can a creative approach be adopted to delivering services in a city?

Session 3 – REDEFINING CITIES OF THE FUTURE
What will cities look like in the Future? Is high rise wise? How can investors react to modern ideas on sustainability?
An architect’s perspective on how urban spaces will be designed
How brownfield regeneration and industrial parks and zones can influence the creation of sustainable cities. How will cities in the future be financed and what is the role of the investor and the developer?

19.00 There will be a banquet for all participants to visit the exhibition and to take the opportunity to network with other delegates and exhibitors.
DAY 2 – 23 April
10.00 Delegates will be given the opportunity to undertake a Study Visit to Brno (optional)
Brno is not only just a nice city. First of all, Brno is a populated landscape. The unique landscape shape enriched by an urban structure makes Brno one of the most scenic cities, where industrial heritage of 19th and 20th centuriry are combined with classic and modern residential districts, this all existing in one space, living and functional.
Participants of the study visit will visit the most interesting spots of the city, outstanding and awarded regeneration projects, as well as projects under heavy discussion or controversial. The visit will be guided and commented by local experst.

Session 4 – THE CITIES
A number of international cities are being invited to give a presentation on how they are addressing their future development and why they consider themselves as innovative and pioneering, especially in the present global economic recession.

Session 5 – THE FORUM AND COMMUNICATION
Communication is vital to the development of cities, but how can it be improved so that all citizens are involved and connected with their urban surrounding. How can the people have a say in how cities are governed? Who are the future leaders of our cities and how will cities be governed and managed? How will cities deal with competition?

THE FORUM DEBATE AND ACTION FOR THE FUTURE
The Debate and Action for the Future (Agenda for Change) will be introduced and chaired by Dan Sequerra, Chairman, Sheffield Cultural Industries Quarter, UK assisted by a panel of experts drawn from the Conference speakers and from the Future Cities Forum Advisory Group. The conclusions from the Conference and Debate will be published on the Future Cities Forum website and will also be printed in book form. Delegates and other interested parties will be welcome to post their comments on the website.
